Meet our barbers and find out their story!
Dale Grinstead-Mayle- Owner & Barber
Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, Dale has resided in Columbus since 2002. Living and working on the South Side for years, he has a strong fondness for Columbus and it's vibrant and historical neighborhoods!
Dale graduated from Columbus' own T.H.E. Barber College and is Licensed in the state of Ohio.
"It has taken a while to find my passion. I have held many different types of jobs throughout the years but none have come close to that feeling when I turn someone's chair around and I see the happiness and confidence that comes with a fresh cut.
I am so excited to open so close to downtown, the Brewery District and especially German Village! Having spent close to 3 years working in the village, the neighbors and charm have made it difficult to leave. Luckily, I don't have to!"
Cory Sherman - Barber
Born and raised on the West Side, Cory has seen Columbus grow and evolve into something amazing! "I became a barber because I really enjoy helping people to look their best so they can nail that job interview or get the girl or guy." He is excited to be a part of the fantastic group of barbers that Columbus so emphatically supports!
When he's not in the shop, Cory enjoys playing guitar and recording his podcast.
His preferred service, besides haircuts is our deluxe beard trim.
Chris Roberts (a.k.a. Chainsaw Lighteningbolt) - Barber
Chris was born and raised in Fresno, OH. We are not sure if that is a real place but we will take his word that it actually exists. Prior to becoming a barber, he worked odd jobs before helping to manage the Easton Zumiez while putting himself through barbering school.
The fact that he loves working with his hands and meeting new people, encouraged him to make the career move. "I enjoy making people feel like the best versions of themselves," says Chris.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing music in two different bands, camping, tattoo collecting, watching soccer...and eating.
Chris preferred service, other than haircuts is definitely the traditional straight-razor shave.
Ethan Bolger - Barber & Parking Lot Guard Dog
Ethan is from Reynoldsburg, OH. Our resident veteran, he was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps and we are so thankful for his service. When asked what he loves most about being a barber, his response was, “I love meeting new people every day and hearing everybody’s stories. I also love the freedom of looking and being whoever you really are. I believe a good haircut is a great way to express that!” Other than haircuts, his favorite service to offer is beard trims.
Outside of the shop, Ethan plays hockey and enjoys listening to Lana Del Ray (he’s a super fan so…unless you want to hear all about how amazing she is, don’t bring it up). He also, loves collecting tattoos and disappointing his parents.
Born and raised in the quaint town of Ada, Ohio, hospitality comes easily to Rob which he utilized in his 26 years in the food industry. After 15 years in Chicago, where he also worked at Gethsemane Garden Center as a container designer, Rob moved to Columbus and has been enjoying all it has to offer for 3 years now!
Rob became a barber because it gives him the opportunity to, “interact with interesting people, make people look and feel good… and gives him the ability to be creative and be myself.”
He enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling and listening to good music like Diana Ross…hmmmm.
Rob’s preferred service to perform is the traditional barber haircut and loves the process of cutting hair.
Mark Rupp - Barber
Born and raised in Westerville, OH. Mark became a barber because he always loved working in industries that allow me to express my artistic abilities and challenge my own skills.
“With the suggestion of a friend and 4th generation barber, I began my journey to become a barber and find it entertaining to now tell people what I do and their eyes immediately taking a glimpse of my bald head …”
Mark’s hobbies include: cooking, cleaning, disc golf, making fun of Rob about being older and retired, and making bad decisions…to name a few.
His favorite service to perform are shaves. “There is no better feeling when you successfully execute a shave because I believe it is the most technical service in any barbershop.”
CJ Phillips - Barber
